Stripped Of My title

Hi all

I only just found this part of the forum today and have found it really helpful so far. So thanks to all.

I have had a rather distressing day today where, being sales manager at a fitness club, I have been told the position of sales manager is to be made redundent due to there apparently being no need for the team to be managed, and have been (unofficially as yet) made a plain sales person.
I was wondering if there is any advice on whether this is legal and if I have grounds to appeal.

I plan to contact the Citizens Advice bureau tomorrow but would really love a helping hand on this.
I have been there since January this year and am passed my probation period.

Thanks
Funky

Has anything else been changed or just your title?

    Hi Goonieman

I will be issued a salary reduction as of one month from friday as well. A sizeable £2000!

    Regards

I recall something about a 'demotion of stature' being branded about when the samething happened with someone at my work, perhaps you could just mention this if you speak to ACAS

If the position is really redundant, then they have to offer you redundancy, I believe, or redeploy you, but you don't have to agree to be redeployed - you can leave. If there's a salary reduction involved I am sure ACAS will be able to advise. It might be worth looking for that on their site rather than just losing your title!

If the position offered pays less, or is of lesser status, then you should be offered redundancy - they cannot just say take the new position or find a job with another employer if you don't like it - in doing so they would be constructively dismissing you, and you could take them to an employment tribunal where they wouldn't have a hope in hell of winning.

    hi guys

thanks for the advice! I have had the official letter today and have been invited to a meeting with the boss at 2pm tomorrow. _pale_

What are your opinions on resigning before I loose my title so I can keep my cv looking good for the next job?

    Thanks

Don't resign - if you do and don't get a job to start immediately then you won't be able to claim jobseekers allowance straight away.

You can still use your original job title on your CV.

    Hi Littlevoice

    Thanks for the tip.
After reading my official invitation to the meeting she has pointed out that my salary will stay the same for one month from today, but i will work from today as a normal sales person. Good to have the money and none of the responsibility, but how embarrassing when she tells all my colleagues that my title has been made redundent! _pale_

One of my colleagues wants my job, so has been rather nasty to me, but I guess now he will chang ehis tune.

Heading down to the Citizens advice bureau today before my meeting so I hope that they can help too.

    Thanks again
