Missed my Ryanair flight to Sardinia!

Hi,
I was scheduled to catch a flight this morning from Stansted to Alghero in Sardinia with Ryanair. I checked the gate number and it said 85, 86, 87 on the screen about 10 minutes before the gate closed. I turned up and there was no one there, so I went back to where I originally was and checked the screen again and it said final call and there was no gate number next to my flight on the screen! Eventually I managed to ask one of the guys that worked there who asked a colleague on the walkie talkie and they said the gate for my flight is 47 and that the flight had left !!! The gate number had obviously changed and there were no announements or anything and I'm very disappointed with both Ryanair and Stansted. This was the first time I travelled from Stansted and I usually travel from Heathrow and Luton without any problems.
Please can someone let me know where I stand with this? I believe that I can claim the government tax back from the flight, but my concern is the hotel which was £300 and the hotel won't give any of my money back! I do have travel insurance, but I'm guessing they won't help me. I booked the hotel with a Visa credit card, is there anything that they can do to help?
Many thanks in advance!!!

how many people were in the same position as you. If there was a last minute gate change and no announcements then I would expect there would have been a lot of people in the same position as you. It would be difficult to prove the airport/airline were at fault if all the other passengers managed to get to the gate and board.0

Gates close 30 mins before a flight, not every time but can do. didn't it say that on your boarding pass?0 -
Many hotels will let you cancel same day. Have you checked your booking T&CS?
As for the flight, the airport will have a log of what was on screen at any time.
But unless you've got dozens of others in the same position I doubt you have a leg to stand on.
I'd also hazard a guess that your names were called across the terminal at least once.0 -

Do flights go from 3 different gates now?
Gates 85, 86, 87 and gate 47 are at different ends of the airport. If it was a last minute change it would take quite some time for all people to wander over there.
Where was the screen that said gates, 85, 86, 87 before or after security?
It sounds a little like that was the check-in board before security and 85,86,87 were the bag drop desks not the gates. A plane only leaves from
one gate normally.

Rather than the post security departures board, like this that shows the gate.

Sorry but it does sound like you didn't read what it said on the screen and mistook the bag drop desks for the gate.0 -
On the Stansted boards there is only room to show one gate, you could not have seen three different gates at one time.
I agree with the above, I suspect you are mistaking check in desks with departure gates, the numbers you quote sound right for check in desks for Ryanair.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. People make mistakes but rule number 1 for booking/checking-in/travelling whatever has to be, Always read what it ACTUALLY says on the screen.0
