Replacement sealed unit for patio door. How long, how much?

I want to replace a sealed unit in a patio door in one of my rental properties it has broken down and has condensation in it.

My husband looked at it yesterday and said it would depress him to live with it so we should change it for the new tenants who move in next weekend.

How long does it take to get a new unit made and fitted its 210 x 90 ish. Any idea of cost?

I will phone around tomorrow morning but and help would be useful.

Google double glazed units. Lots of sites have online calculators - you input the measurements and standard of glazing required and up pops the price.

They can be made quite quickly in a couple of days when needed...when ours was delivered and being fitted the company discovered that they had measured the wrong size so had to order a second unit...it was fitted 4 days later

  • Shop around. Not a big job. Some companies may have it in stock, others may have to order it in. Just depends on who you use and how much you want to pay.

is it an aluminium patio door or uPVC? if it's aluminum then the whole sash will have to be removed to get the unit out, basically each door is built around the glass unit. If it's uPVC then its an easier job to pop the beads off and replace the unit.

You will need a toughened double glazed unit as well.
