Vanquis not allowing balance transfers?

Hi

I've recently tried to transfer my Vanquis balance to a 0% interest card.

However, I've just checked and it looks like the balance transfer has not been accepted by Vanquis. I can't speak to anyone as they are closed today but I just wonder whether anyone else has had this problem?

They obviously charge huge amounts of interest and so want to hold on the debt but is this something they can do? It definitely does not seem ethical, never mind anything else!!

Just to add - I have successfully in the past transferred part of the Vanquis balance to another card - about 2 years ago but for some reason now they seem to be blocking this transfer.

put your spending onto the 0% card
use that cash to pay off Vanquis

See the search box top right of your screen? Search "Vanquis balance transfer" and select "forum", and you'll see several threads listed where others are reporting the same thing with some providers.

You haven't said where you're trying to transfer it to (is it a secret? ), but hopefully you'll see your card listed in those posts and find a get-around.

Its Barclaycard I'm trying to transfer to. Its only 0% on balance transfers unfortunately so can't spend on it really.

Yes, transferring a balance from Vanquis seems to have been an issue for several other people.

One solution has been to get Barclaycard to do a manual transfer. I'm not sure whether their frontline customer service folk would know how to, or be able to, do that.

One oddity I've noticed about my Vanquis Direct Debit is that the reference number bears absolutely no resemblance to my card number.

Just to update - I've spoken to Vanquis this morning and they have said 'we don't have the facility to accept balance transfers' which is complete rubbish as they have accepted a balance transfer before.

She said ' we cna accept a card payment over the phone for the balance' which is no use as its only 0% interest for balance transfers and I would imagine doing it that way would mean it would come up as a payment and it would get interest charged on it.

I tried to argue that they had accepted a transfer before but she just kep saying ' theres nothing I can do we don't have the facilty'. I asked to speak to a manager but she just said they would tell me the same thing.

Complete waste of time. I'm so annoyed. Don't want to give the money grabbing sods a penny more than I have to but looks like I'm stuck!

Does it matter whether or not Vanquis wants to accept balance transfers?

Doesn't Barclaycard simply pay off the balance on your Vanquis card on your behalf?

Perhaps balance transfers are handled differently to other payments behind the scenes. Dunno.

As I mentioned, others have managed to get Barclaycard to push through a payment (transfer?) manually.

I wonder if, rather than Vanquis not accepting the balance transfer, this is a case of Barclaycard not initiating it; perhaps because their system isn't set up with the necessary payment details.

Maybe you need to push Barclaycard harder.

Perhaps logging in to your Barclaycard account and sending them a secure message, highlighting the problems, might get things moving.
