Travel Insurance Query

Options
Hey people, basically everytime ive been away before i have been covered under my mum and dad travel insurance but im going away to barcelona for a stag and now am thinking about getting insurance

1) Do i actually need it? or is it just a strong reccomendation

2) where is the best and or cheapest place to get it from

I dont go away all the time or once a year or anything so dont think theres any point in getting a long 12 month policy just a one -off should do

cheers for any help

You should always take out travel insurance if you are going abroad.
Anything and everything could happen. You should also take it out the moment you actually book the holiday, again things can happen to stop you going.

Just take a single trip policy.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    1) No you don't have to have it

    2) See cheap travel insurance quick link above.

(If you will be drinking whilst away then read the exclusion section - claims for any accidents whilst under the influence won't be covered)

Make sure to get and take an EHIC - if you don't already have one, don't pay to get one - they're free. The EHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance.
  • Slightly different query but I thought I'd try this forum for an answer.

I'm travelling with my family in Europe next month. I had pre-eclampsia, high blood pressure and post natal depression with my last pregnancy over 2 years ago. I know you have to state any previous illnesses but when I've checked insurance sites, the conditions on there seem to be concerned with ongoing current conditions and don't specifically mention any pregnancy-related conditions.

Should I state that I had high blood pressure and depression, despite the fact that they were pregnancy-related and therefore only applicable when I'm pregnant (which I'm not!)

Yes you should declare them unless you go for a type of travel which simply excludes pre-existing. Given you are saying they are simply pregnancy related then any insurer that does give cover for pre-existing will do their medical screening and should have a minimal impact on the premium due to it being broadly irrelevant now
