Ok so I need to take my landlord to small claims for my deposit. Deposit is 550 but he cant provide the scheme it was in and I believe it never was. Therefore I can get three times this. So do I claim for 3 times this or just the deposit?
Thanks

Interestingly I had always heard that you claim for 3x the deposit (minus agreed deductions), but:
http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/paying_for_a_home/tenancy_deposits/court_action_to_get_a_tenancy_deposit_returned
says to claim for only the deposit minus deductions.0 -
If he's saying it is in a scheme, it's probably best if you ring each one to find out if they have any record of it first.

If you are simply claiming for your deposit back, that can be a (Part 7) claim that is allocated to the Small Claims Track* but if you are claiming for 1 - 3 x deposit as a penalty for non-protection under the Localism Act, then this needs to be made as a Part 8 Claim and should be allocated to the multi-track. Multi-track claims are the most complex and expensive and it is generally not a good idea to represent yourself. If you claim and lose, the Defendant's costs can be awarded against you.
*there is no such thing as "The Small Claims Court".We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Have you actually checked with each of the 5 schemes to see if it was registered?
No point claiming the 3 x penalty only to find he had registered it!0
