I share your interest as one counterbalance is bonds but these are also currently seen as "proceed with caution" in case interest rates and inflation take off.:(
Have you tried loading your portfolio (real or hypothetical) into Trustnet? It gives you a steer on volatility with its "risk score" by fund/share.
I tells me that my portfolio risk score is now about 55, cf. the FTSE of 100. A typical corporate bond fund would be about 30. GARS is 29 so that is one of my dampeners at the moment.
There's more to it than volatility of course - there's still asset and sector allocation to consider.
I'm attracted to GARS because it is internally diversified, a pension fund in a box. The only slightly worrying thing is that nobody knows quite what's in the box!"Things are never so bad they can't be made worse" - Humphrey Bogart0 -

I do use trustnet. I have 5 pots for different things, I keep meaning to do summary portfolio.
The biggest and riskiest, but it has been for many years is 80/20 with a score of 62. Mainly equity income.
Three others are 60/40 scoring 44 - 48 where I am looking for more "stability".
My lowest risks are the ubiquitous M&G Optimal Income @ 24 and bond funds @ ~30. The highest risk is an all share tracker. Some feature in more than one pot.
The final one is a 20/80 just to see how it fares @ 28.
Probably too much in the UK but reasonably well spread. My next tranche will be 60/40 with more going global @57.
I probably have too many and will look to rationalise/rebalance later in the year - or earlier if platform fees dictate.
I do monitor a portfolio for an elderly relative under the stewardship of an IFA. They are risk rated at 2 -3 and the portfolio is 85% FI and 15% MA which attracts an FE score of 24 across 13 funds. Interesting.
Is that the Standard Life GARS?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

After reading all this I think I might cash everything in while immon the up and start all over again.
I expect a massive crash is due soon anyway.0 -

Yes, sorry.
The main concern, if there is one, is that it is such a gigantic fund. I wouldn't be surprised if it is limited at some point, though the managers said last year that it wasn't a concern."Things are never so bad they can't be made worse" - Humphrey Bogart0
