Please all homeowners be aware of their policy exclusions. I have had a pipe go buried in my kitchen wall it's damaged a wall unit as well as work top oven and 3 units out of the 8 in my gallery style kitchen .Its a MFI schreiber which is now not here of course .I have checked at Homebase who now do Schreiber .Now the loss adjuster came yesterday to view damage and nothing for the plumbing costs Andy old for new policy has a clause he pointed out that says matching sets are not covered on the damaged items. How this can be referred back to building insurance towns fitted kitchens is beyond belief but factual according to him.He says nearly all policies now include this clause including mine CHURCHILLS insurance.I hope they have kept my voice recording of my all singing n dancing policy being sold to me 3 or 4 years ago.I also had no help from them or contact over the bank holiday weekend it happened and was wrongly informed by them over the phone on the Saturday that nobody in claims dept till Tuesday when I got through about confirming a time with inspector they informed me the office had been open bank hol mon. So naffed off with them totally but EVERYONE PLEASE do read your policies and decide whether a mismatch kitchen would be acceptable to you. BUYER BEWARE!I first put this on the insurance and was advised it may be better on here so I have posted on here. Update the CHURCHILLS loss adjuster has not quoted for my clearly rusted damaged fan oven nor has he noticed the one double oven and electric socket (he has quoted can be replaced for £20. This is fitted and supplied???) also had another socket at the side of it which has been safely fitted with a junction box but the cables are leading to it . Dont know how he missed it as its laid on the worktop.I asked him to come back and do his job again seeing as he has missed 2 things. He has allowed £7 for the plastering and £52 for 1.35 meters of tiles that originally cost me £300 to have fiitted. £224 to replace and remove 2 base damaged units and fit 2 500 mm width base units when one is 600mm. this price includes the doors I am not talking just the carcasses.Believe me it is not 1.35 meters of tiles so he must have now decided my tiles are part of a matched set also. After telling them I was making a complaint with the financial ombudsman the claims department have now phoned and oiffered 25% towards the cost of my other units. I have refused of course. as this would mean with their allowances of £112 per base unit means I would be given the paltry amount of £22 per unit towards replacing the other 5 units. On the plus side he has now instructed to remove and replace the vinyl flooring.I dont know if he realises that my " Vinyl" flooring is Karndean and it covers in Pitch pine the entire ground floor of my house. It is one complete run from the kitchen to through to the hallway and 24ft lounge / open plan dining room no stops or room breaks bars and bordered in parts.this cost me me a fortune so will be speaking to them about this in the morning.

This is very hard to read. Use paragraphs and make it easier for people to see the exact nature of your complaint.

With insurance, you should study the details of the policy and the exclusions to see if it suits you.

If what they are doing are consistent with the policy, then you have no cause for complaint and conversely.

I believe that it is common with home insurance to have a clause relating to matching sets - they only pay for replacement of the damaged items, not for the whole set even if this means you end up with a non-matching set.

If you require cover for the whole matching set, you should have got a policy that covers whole sets if one item is damaged.

Fair comments I stand corrected on the paragraphs .Best be warned about the event rather than after the event is what I say.Perhaps if you are and insurance expert you can decipher this info , ii Just want people to not get caught out Just trying to reach out to people to get it changed.I have and old for new policy. The clause is "but we will not replace matched sets "
I am just making the point that people beware that they are referring to tiles and kitchens units also not just the damaged pouffe that belongs to your 3 peice suite. Not in a million years would I think minimum 4 units, plus the worktop damaged out of a total of 9 , so therefore approx half of my kitchen is okay to be mismatched according to Churchills.
My gripe is its a significant thing that should be mentioned at the point of sale. I wonder how many people would then risk insuring with them. Just saying like! Not many I would think.
.My OAP next door neighbours who are insured by Churchills also certainly did'nt interpret it that way either. So be careful who you buy insurance and please check you booklet as its in a lot of policies Direct line e.g. is part of Churchills. ps hope my paragraphs ok;)

What event? Is there something in the first post? Try making it readable.

I guessing autocorrect or predictive text has played a part in this.....

It still doesn't make much sense, sorry.

AS far as I can work out, a pipe, buried in the kitchen wall burst over the bank holiday and Churchill don't cover expensively fitted kitchens that are no longer in production. I could be wrong about that though. :undecided
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

    That's about it GingerNutty,
Their figures don't add up unless you know anyone who would plasterboard and plaster for £7 over 3 meters of wall, £3.50 to take off and refit the original draw fronts per draw. Now had 3 quotations and not a hope of getting the work done alone with the amount they are offering, and that's without purchasing any units what so ever. B and Q and Wren at the minute are quoting over £5300 for supplying and fitting just the units not the other work that's needed , ie the black mouldy plaster off the wet through walls, the electrical sockets that are no longer in situ, the tiling the flooring etc. Howdens due tomorrow with quote but cant see it getting any better. I haven't got the extra £3500 plus so make up the difference.
So this is my point of letting people they are in for shoddy ride with the insurance companies if part of their kitchen is damaged and its unable to be matched.
Buy these Churchill insurance policies but read your exclusions and get the insurance to explain exactly what they mean.
Remember an old for new policy will not necessarily cover you in the way you may expect and want it to !
