Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong board. I will move if someone can point me in the right direction but couldn't find an appropriate board!!
My fiance and I have decided that we need a will. We are not married (yet) but own a house together and have a joint account and want to make sure the other is protected should the worst happen.
Where do we start in getting a will? Are all solicitors the same? How much does it cost? Any pitfalls to avoid?
Thanks

I have more than home insurance which includes MoreThanLegalDocs.
Allowed us to create wills for no charge by answering a series of questions. As it is a fairly straightforward will that no one is likely to contend the legality of, I'm more than happy with it for the time being.
We did get the signing witnessed by a solicitor friend of ours though.0 -

In my opinion Wills should be done by a solicitor and not something from WHSmiths - there are exceptions where its all straight forward but why cut corners on something which could go wrong when your not around to fix it?
You can speak to solicitors or Will writers. When i purchased my house, my solicitors offered me a free will writing service. There is an Association of Will Writers which i think has a code of practice - although its not an obligation to join this.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
