argos - do they have to refund when you return item ?

Is it really that cut and dried ? They HAVE to refund even if there is nothing wrong with the item ? I thought that was only if it was unopened?
If you're referring to online purchases covered by the DSRs, a lot of retailers wrongly state that items need to be unopened/unused.
The consumer is only under duty to take reasonable care of the goods. The retailer can specify what they consider to be reasonable care, but it cannot restrict the consumers ability to assess the product. Even if you breach your duty of care, they are supposed to refund you and then chase you for your breach separately. In practice though, many retailers just simply refuse to refund and its up to the consumer to chase to get their money back.
There are some exceptions both to the DSRS in whole, the DSRs in part or just from the unconditional right to cancel. Such as package holidays, car hire, customised goods, goods which deteriorate rapidly such as flowers etc.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
They wont refund a computer there and then, it will be tested, found not faulty and given back to the OP. I seem to think buyers remorse is at play here, the part about it working for hours and a better deal elsewhere rings alarm bells.
We have no way of knowing what crashes the computer, may be playing online games without the proper spec that crashes it, not the comps fault.
Op might be lucky but Argos do seem pretty strict when it come to electrical goods such a PC's, TV's cameras etc, this is why they are excluded from their 30 days policy.0 -

but they would refund in full if the laptop wont turn on;) (take fuse out of plug)0 -

What you could do is check online before you go to the store to see how many they have in stock. The number will be low I imagine for an item like a pc. Say 3. Set up 3 fake yahoo email addresses and reserve them for store collection under fake names. Costs nothing but makes them unavailable to be sold for 24 hours.
Then when you take it back they won't have any available so will probably refund. It's unlikely they will repair so quickly after receipt.
It's devious but would probably work!
How would you feel if you wanted something from Argos, now, today, and they were all reserved in this manner?but they would refund in full if the laptop wont turn on;) (take fuse out of plug)
So you are promoting deception?0 -

Possibly, but what do you think that they would do when they find out about this deception?
They might ignore it, but then again they might decide to take legal action against the person who committed the fraud.0 -

I wouldn't know. I would assume its out of stock and not worry too much about it.
Tomorrow the reservation would end and they would be available again. You need to be more patient.
