There's a potential risk to the OP's friend, as the owner of the car. Permitting a vehicle to be used by an uninsured driver is also an offence, but OP's friend might have a defence if they reasonably believed OP was insured.
Reasonable belief is no defence.
But it's irrelevant to who has to pay for the damage. Unless there were some very unusual circumstances, the driver behind will be liable, and their insurer will have to pay, regardless of whether the car in front was insured or not.
Liabilty isn't affected by whether insurance is in place.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
