Survey reveals asbestos - worry?

Spoke to the surveyor of the house I am hoping to buy and he told me that the house has a couple of asbestos ceilings, namely the porch and utility room and also the sofits are asbestos.

I am NOT planning to change any of these, they are all in good condition and don't appear to need any work doing on them.

BUT should I be worried?
Do they need to be sorted out before I move?
If so, do I knock the sellers down a bit to get this dealt with? If so, how much?

This type of asbestos is not an issue if left undisturbed.

Asbestos is a product that was commonly used during building construction over many decades. The older the property the more there'll be within the building.

    I don't think so.

Surveyor should have indicated this if so. If they are not damaged then no there is no need.

I don't think you're likely to get any discount for what was a standard construction technique for decades and does not cause any issue if left alone. Are you even 100% sure there is even any asbestos there?
  • Asbestos is of no worry unless you disturb in. I.e drilling into it, ripping it down, without proper removal.

If you have no plan to do anything with it then it shouldn't be a problem. If you wanted to remove it factor in a few hundred.

Asbestos is common in older houses. It was used for everything back in the day, you'd be surprised where you'd find it.
An opinion is just that..... An opinion
