Hot water bill - why so high?
Comments
-
Both bill and meter seem to be metric.
I had presumed the control on the hot water cylinder upstairs was only for the immersion heater - but i have now adjusted these from the highest setting to the minimum. Hopefully this will make some difference!0 -
The minimum might be too low to kill off bacteria, 55-60 is the norm.
min or max, you still seem to be using too much gas to heat water if the figures are correct, 17 days should use about 350-400kwh gas, unless you use a lot of hot water (baths/power showers).!!

Think it was set to around 60 before I reduced the temp. Probably best if I give Scottish Power a call tomorrow to see if they can offer any explanation!
Thanks all.0 -

Put it back to between 55-60c unless you want to be very ill, or die.stateofplay wrote: »Think it was set to around 60 before I reduced the temp. Probably best if I give Scottish Power a call tomorrow to see if they can offer any explanation!

Are you sure you are reading your meter properly. There is no way you could use all that gas running the boiler for a couple of hours each day .
Assuming a 30Kwh boiler, 2 hours / day for 17 days = 1020 Kwh.
That would mean the boiler is running flat out during all that time which seems unlikely.
You do have a hot water tank? Is it insulated, there should be a thermostat on it.
What is the make and model of your boiler?
Have I missed something?
I thought the OP is claiming to have used this amount of gas in just 1 hour per day?stateofplay wrote: »...My bill for the last 17 days - in which no central heating has been used and hot water only 1 hour daily - was £65 . That was based on 100khw electric and 1392khw gas. ..0 -
I wondered who would be the first to spot that!!!!!
