paying for car by bank transfer abroad

Hi all

I have been asked to pay for a car I am buying in th UK by a bank transfer. The complexity is that the account is abroad as the owner is moving overseas.

If the seller is willing to hand over the new keepers portion of the V5 and a receipt when I do the transfer, would that be enough? The money may take a couple of days after that to clear.

Would it matter if the account is not in the same name as the V5?

Am I safe as long as I leave with the vehicle and receipt? Or could there be come back?

Thanks in advance for any help

Too many people loose money this way.

Walk away and find another car.

I'd be interested in the background story to this, but to me it smells as fishy as Grimsby docks.

There are plenty of honest sellers out there with good cars, this does not seem like one of them, good you came here and asked first

    Hi

Thanks for the replies. That is my gut reaction too, but the nagging question is 'how could it actually backfire?' if get the car, v5 and receipt when I initiate the transfer what actually could happen?

It feels odd, but when I think about the detail, as long as I have the car and a receipt aren't I ok?

I am really curious to know what could happen (sorry if that is a stupid question)

    Thanks again

Ive added a little clarification to your post, and with regards what could happen? Quite simply, you can lose the car.

My thoughts exactly, is the car registered to the address and person you are buying it from? are you collecting from a private residence?

Yup, I am collecting it from the house it is registered to from the owner (although I probably can't check ID;) )
