Getting approved for AMEX help?

Hi,

Very recently I have been appointed to a new place of employment, my salary has been doubled all the perks of an executive life been awarded. There’s just one problem I’m still shopping around with a Virgin MasterCard and another NatWest VISA credit card tucked away in my wallet, yes they are functional, have credit limits but I feel the need to be furnished with an AMEX gold card.

One of my good friends has an AMEX gold card earning nowhere near myself and I feel a tad left out, it sounds stupid I know however it would mean a lot to me to receive an approval so I’m looking for some good advice to increase my chances.

Currently my credit report reads 895, with two negative factors as follows.

1. The usage of your available credit indicates a higher risk (91% total credit being used)
2. You have recently opened 1 or more new credit accounts.
Relating to a Tesco credit card I applied for some bizarre reason last month, the paperwork arrived asking for my passport and address information ect, however I never filled it out and threw it away changing my mind.

The positive Factors?

1. You have a significant number of successfully settled credit accounts

I like to think I’ve kept my payments in check all the time can’t ever remember missing even one. What’s my plan now?, simple on the next pay check I plan on paying all these cards off taking my total usage of credit to 0% something I was going to do anyway but hey maybe this is enough for an AMEX approval.

All the other requirements such as household income I can double the minimum, don’t have any history of bad debt aside those factors up there. I’m hoping that paying off those cards will sort my chance out I guess my other question is what if I close them after settling them is there a point to that?

In advance thank you for any help relating to this issue, I’m sure it has you in chuckles the why does it matter questions right?, lets both assume it matters and I would like to be walking around with a gold card in the next few months for the novelty of it.

Thanks You.

there is nothing special about an Amex gold card. It has some perks if you travel a lot, but otherwise why on earth get another card you simply don't need.

Get yourself a bit of plastic, spray it with gold paint, stick it in your wallet and there you go.
  • Any help relating to obtaining the card based on my Credit Score and Status anyone?,

Should I pay all the cards off evenly and close them, or just pay them off? and how long do I have to wait for the adjustments?

    Thanks again.

Credit score from a CRA: always meaningless

Amex seems to be looking to expand their customer base given their incessant advertising and recent market research I have seen (but cannot disclose).

I recently (last week) got the Amex Gold, and I have CC limits of £10000, £9000 used (all at 0%), furthermore I forgot to stooze my 0% HSBC overdraft last month meaning that they would have seen me maxing that £2000 out as well.

I would be more worried about the fact that Tesco couldn't verify your ID online. This will decrease the chances of you getting the Amex.

If your household income is over £40000 and you sort out the ID problem then you should get the card. Less than £40k and that may reduce your chances. Anecdotally being referred by a "friend" may have a higher chance of approval too.

You sound like you need to grow up if I'm perfectly honest.
