Switching Supplier

My British Gas fixed tariff expires 1/6/13. Do I have to wait until 1/6/13 to request a change of supplier or can I do it now. Uswitch states to do it 2-3 weeks before expiry of tariff. However looking at T&C' of British Gas tariff states if they receive a request to leave this tariff before 1/6/13 I will incur the exit fees. Therefore if my new supplier contacts British Gas before 1/6/13 will I incur a fee as I am sure by the time everything has switched over it will be after 1/6/13.

Hi, it is now safe to start the switch, the new supplier usually waits at least a week , some wait two before contacting the old supplier.
As long as the switch itself doesn't take place before 1st June it's ok, my fastest switch took 21 days !0
