just done a few comparisons online, and ive found that if you get contents and buildings seperate rather than together it works out cheaper??
anyone else found this
for example, a quote with swinton for
buildings =£60
Contents= £47
yet when u try both together it comes to £118
is it wise to get home insurance together or seperate or doesnt it matter that much, i know it prob be easier to have it all in one place

If you need to claim you may have to claim off 2 policies incurring 2 lots of excesses if you have separate policies.
But if you do buy separately you may be able to also get 2 lots of introductory incentives eg. Quidco type cashback/gift cards etc.
Check swinton feedback here and on the net. There's a reason why they seem cheap!!0 -
you dont pay excess on both if you only claim for one of them?
example if i bought seperate and only claimed on contents, you wouldnt pay buildings excess aswell
if i bought buildings and contents, together in one, the same would apply (if you only claimed for contents) abviously if you claimed for both it would me paying 2 excess or have i got that wrong?0 -

My Dad always advised me to have my buildings and contents insured with the same company - this is only his opinion though.
His reasoning for this is that you would only have one company to deal with in the event of a total loss and so making life easier.
Also , you would have only one renewal to deal with and so wouldnt have to shop around to find the best deal for each insurance.The loopy one has gone :j0 -

I would agree with him. I always have a combined policy.0 -

yeah its with swinton,
tempting offer of £30 cashback for each Contents and Building policy, plus quidco cashback of £50 in total, so a saving of £110 in cashback,
very tempted to get separate buildings and contents with swinton as it works out cheaper than getting it together/combined for some odd reason, but i,m not complaining:)0 -
Swinton are a broker. You could end up with buildings and contents with separate insurers.0
