someone else doing my job

Options
Hi I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on this problem or share a similar experience.

I currently work p-time (30hours p/w) in a power station for a contract company who is one of many working there.over the last few weeks I had noticed that another contractor was doing parts of my job, when I asked my supervisor about this he claimed to not know what was going on.A few days later the area manager (for the contractor I work for) called me in for quick chat(about 2mins!) he told me another contractor was doing my job and due to the company reducing manpower hours he had to let me go,but would keep me for the remainder of the Power station outage season(about 4 weeks left).
I have been doing this job now for nearly 6 years have never been disciplined for any reason and have a clean health and safety record. Also no body has ever told me that they were not happy with my work.
Do I have any rights?
Would I be entitled to any redundancy after 6 years?
I would really like to have my job back because I enjoy doing it!

thanks to anyone for taking the time to read this.

Are you an employee of the contract company? That is do you work for them on a contract of service basis or a contract for services?

If you are an employee I believe you should be entitled to statutory redundancy pay if they do not offer you suitable alternative employment.

If you are an employee you are working under a contract of service. Someone working on a contract for services basis is self-employed.

You need to look at what written agreement there is between you and the organisation which pays you.

When you write about another contractor doing your job. Are you writing about an individual person?
