  • Thanks for clearing us up with that. Moving out when employed is not an option. Hoping some luck with 1 job before then!

Have just done a check on the Warrington calculator. And apparently we are entitled to bellow:

Housing Benefits: £92.31 PW - Remaining to pay £5.69
Council Tax Support: £19.20 - Remaining to pay £1.78

    Does this sound about right?

    Yes it does.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.
  • Yes it does.

    Thanks.

Could you tell me the process of claiming housing/council tax benefits?

Going to view a house on Monday, if we like it we are going to go through with it. When would we need to put in our claim and how long would this take to be processed?

housing benefit is paid from the monday AFTER you submit your claim.
it varies from area to area how long it will take.
my areas seems to generally process new claims within 2 weeks but in other areas can take a few months. it all depends on the workload in your area

Housing Benefit will stat on the day of your tenancy if you submit the claim the week you move in.

If you submit the claim the week after you move in then your claim will start the following Monday after your claim is received.

Get a claim form from your local authority or see if you can do it online, over the phone or download and print the claim form for you to return.

The important thing is to get the claim form in the day or week you move in.

Time to process can be as quick as the day you hand it in or weeks and weeks depending n the backlog of your particular council.

  • Have you got the money that the LL will want up front - rent in advance and deposit ?
