Silverstone...

Im want to surprise my step-dad on fathers day with a trip to the grand prix but i dont even know where Silverstone is! Can anyone advise me on the nearest airport/sea port and somewhere cheap to stay nearby?

You'll struggle to find anywhere to stop at all - let alone cheap but good luck all the same

& take ear plugs with you

There is a premier travel inn near by that my dad always stays at. I think a lot of places do camping too.

They would be flying into Luton and home from East Midlands, so where would eb the best place for them to stay, bearing in mind they are hiring a car too.

Ive tried looking at maps of the area but im totally conufsed now! lol

We really struggled last year as we left it until around now to book up - we ended up staying at the Coventry East Premier Travel inn, which was OK with us & you always know exactly what you're going to get.

I just checked & they do still have some availibility
It's around 30 miles from Silverstone but close to the M1 so easy to find etc.

You may want to start looking at other places - Northampton is the nearest big town/city but don't leave it too long before you book.

One other thing ...........

If you want to park at the circuit you need to buy a parking pass well in advance [in the next week or so] - call 08704 588 300 for details.

I have been to the Grand Prix at Silverstone a few times and live in Northampton.
I would recommend trying to get somewhere to stay in Northampton. There are quite a few hotels: TraveLodge, Ibis, Holiday Inn, etc...
If you managed to get a room at the Travelodge at Sixfields in Northampton they also do a Park & Ride from Northampton's Football Club at Sixfields which is just over the road from the hotel.
I think they also do Park & Ride from Towcester Race Course.

If you drive or do park & ride I would really recommend that you leave VERY VERY early to get to the circut as the traffic is a nightmare! :eek:

everytime i've went to silverstone i've camped as its easier and you avoid all the traffic jams getting in and out of the circuit
