Kitten and nail polish....

I've just been painting my nails, I didn't think and left the bottle on the arm of my chair with the lid off. My kitten has just jumped on it and now there is nail varnish on the carpet and her paws. Dont mind about the carpet as I can clean it easily, but the varnish is on three of her paws. Ive googled it and it says the best thing is to trim the hair but she won't let me touch her paws. Does anyone have any ideas how to get it off? I don't want to just leave it in case she licks it!

Thanks in advance!

Just grab her paws and trim the fur. It'll be a nicer experience than her dying.
  • If she's that difficult about it wrap her tightly in a towel and just leave one paw at a time sticking out. You should be able to tuck her under an arm and safely trim her paws that way. It's a useful skill to learn while she's still small for things like giving pills.
If you lend someone £20 and never see them again, it was probably £20 well spent...

    Gee thanks Treevo..

I've managed to get almost all of it out by picking it with my nails. She seems to panic whenever she sees the scissors so ill try wrapping her in the towel for the last couple of bits.

Success! All the nail polish is out of her fur. I found the best thing was to wrap her in the towel and scrape the polish with my nails until it was out. She kept freaking with the scissors and kicking her legs so I thought it was best not to cut her fur. Thanks for the towel tip!

Erm, excuse me? Who are you to call me a bad owner? Both of my cats are well cared for, their every need and every want seen to. One lapse in judgement doesn't make me a bad owner and one post where I've made a mistake doesn't give you a licence to judge my life and my pets. If you're going to bother to post, can you please stick to the topic and offer advise instead of making me feel even worse about the situation than I already have been as I'm fully aware of the possible consequences had she eaten it.

I can only assume this is a joke, albeit a bad one. Alternatively PasturesNew does in fact break the rule that nobody's perfect, and she would in fact never do something as horrendous/cruel/evil/callous as FORGET TO PUT THE LID BACK ON SOMETHING!!!!! Or, perhaps you really are horrendous and are currently thinking up your next evil act whilst cackling madly. Leave the ketchup bottle on the side perhaps? The fridge door slightly ajar? Perhaps forget to turn off the heating when you leave the house? mwahahahahahahaha your depravity knows no bounds:rotfl:

Thanks for making me chuckle, I still feel terrible about the whole thing. But the kitten didn't sulk with me for too long after being wrapped in the towel and she's still jumping about like something demented except when she wants cuddles so I guess she's not too traumatised. :)

I very much doubt it will kill her. Bit of an alarmist post, don't you think?

That's not helpful! Accidents happen and the OP felt bad enough and sorted it out. Since their kitten is young they're probably not used to having to have eyes in the back of their head yet! I'm glad the kitten is OK.
