I want to pot my 2 pieris into pots after taking them out of the border. The only problem is that when I planted them in the border I can't remember if they needed special soil or if I just put ordinary compost into the bottom of the hole.

Can anybody help?

They should be fine in a Multipurpose or John Innes no 3 compost. Add some slow release fertiliser too.

My two plants are fine in multipurpose compost. I have just recently replanted one into soil as we now have a garden

I actually checked with Alan (keep forgetting I have gardening books lol, this site is so addictive) and he said that they should be in the same type of soil as rhodedendrons and when I looked at my ericacous soil packet it said pieris on there. Thanks for your help anyway.

Yes, you are right lynsey, I have mine planted beside some conifers and it loves the acidity caused by them. In fact, when I cut back the conifers, I mulch the pieris with them.
