hi every 1,

Can't see why it would damage it... maybe if you were blocking the vents and heat couldn't escape, but I've not heard of a laptop dying that way before. I tend to sit with mine resting on a cushion on my lap, just to raise it a bit, and to stop my legs getting hot :)

It's probably due to the fans on the bottom sucking air into the case. Any loose debris on your clothing or loose threads could conceivably be sucked into the fans and render them useless. You'll usually find the laptop will close down if the fans aren't working, or have periodic crashes etc.

Then there's the possibility that you may fall asleep whilst the bottom of the laptops gets hotter and hotter and you end up with a burn on you legs.

You could purchase something like this: http://www.jrhillandcompany.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=102 however, personally. I just use a flat cushion, or a dinner tray. They all serve the same purpose.

Or theres the possibility that you may fall to sleep and the laptop falls on the floor, usually resulting in a broken hinge or a temperamental laptop screen.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

I've been doing this for years with no problem. Don't worry about it. All the warnings are just completely hypothetical.
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

Well, it is called a laptop. Keep it away from small kids, drinks, and don't put anything heavy on top of the screen, and you should be fine.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
