50's metal kitchen cabinets need help

My Mom's kitchen needs a face lift. The metal cabinets bought in 1952 have experienced paint added and it's worn and chipped across the handles. It has been cleaned to the level it is tacky to the touch. I have already been reading forums and wondered if I will use a stripper like Peel Away 7. Also, what is the best form of paint and application method after the cabinets are prepped? Thanks so much for the help.
