    I agree an IFA would be a good start, and although in general I like BTL as part of a portfolio, I am not sure it could be the right thing in your case. You could, if you needed to either upgrade your current home or move perhaps. But you'd need to do this before you OH gave up his job.


    I agree, make sure you and the OH have pensions, and fill ISAs. and start one for the children- and make sure both of you are insured.

    Then your OH, he isn't satisfied with is job and wants to improve- probably the best time for him to do so. But I would ask him to work at least part time, as a teaching degree wont take all of his hours to do and he could fit in a bit or PT work if he chose. Instead of living off income, you can set aside a slice of the money to support the family along with CB and any wage he might bring in part time.

    Then, perhaps with an IFA, invest the rest. In a few years time, once the OH is working as a teacher and the children are off to school you might re look at BTL for a small part of your inheritance.
