Any Italian Ferry Experts out there?

Was wondering if anyone had any dealings with the Italian Ferries?
Arrive Rome and was thinking of driving to Sicily but another option would be a ferry or Hydrofoil to Sardinia. I have had a look at the ferry sites but I can't make out what they are saying (no Italian) but it looks as if there are some good discounts available for advanced bookings.
Any ideas? Car + 4
