Hoping for some tips guys please.
I've never been to Doncaster (we're in Nottingham) but I've just booked Sun tickets for a gig at Doncaster racecourse on Saturday 3rd August.
I'll be driving, and I've had a look on the Doncaster racecourse website, where it says all car parks there are free. Will we have to get there early to get a carpark space at the racecourse?

There is an area for parking opposite the main stand . When this fills up they park the cars on the land to the side of the grandstand up to the bloodstock sales ring . Plenty of parking but I think that night will be a sell out . All the locals use public transport because they head on into Doncaster town centre afterwards . How early you want to get there depends if you actually want to see the racing that is on for 3 hours prior to the gig !! Are you a couple or a family with kids ? Which enclosure are your tickets for ? I think Tattersalls and Members are mainly patronised by youngsters getting full of ale and blokes in suits who feel lasses in their frocks are fair game , if you are in the family enclosure it is more civilised but I am an oldie who never partook in this activity . Very few will be there for the gee- gees , a trend amongst modern day racecourses unfortunately . Hope the weather is fine and you enjoy the gig .0

thanks andy - we are a family, mum and 2 12-year old girls. Its the Scouting for Girls gig, not really interested in the racing beforehand to be honest, so in your experience what time do you think the band will be on stage from?
eta - I've done a bit of digging about on the racecourse website, it looks like we are in the grandstand as the family enclosure is closed that day for the outdoor stage to be accommodated.
Last race on that day is scheduled for 5pm and the band are due on stage shortly after that.0 -
Ah I assumed it must be an evening meeting . I presume they will be onstage shortly after racing finishes so 530ish . The locals will stay for the music and move on to the town centre afterwards , I assume you want a good spot for the music so if you are not bothered about the racing plan to arrive mid afternoon and pick your spot . You might have to park further away from the entrance though as all the racegoers will be parked up . Hope you enjoy and it stays dry for you .0

Hi balletshoes a bit more advice for you . The last race is now 550 pm so the band won't be on stage until after 6 pm . Doncaster Rovers football team are playing at home on saturday so if you are planning on arriving after 5 pm you will hit the traffic leaving that , if you arrive between 3 and 5 there will be little or no traffic due to racing and football being underway but most parking will obviously be taken up but it will be easier to drive around and find available parking . Finally the weather is set to be fine mid 20s and dry just like it has been for the last 6 weeks mainly , hope you have a great day and it all goes smoothly for you , I am sure it will .0
