Close Halifax bank acc

Hi,

I have 3 halifax accounts that are sat dormant. Is it possible to close them down over the phone or best to write/ go in branch to do this?

Any help appreciated :d

    They won't accept closure over the phone. You will have to write or visit a branch.

    Is there a letter template anywhere for this or just the standard

    "I would like to close such and such" ??

    I'm sure the standard letter would suffice.

    You used to be able to do it with a click of the mouse online; not possible now. So much for progress, Halifax have never quite grasped the concept of 'online' banking.

    Last year they said it depended on the account:

    For a current account you had to surrender all unused cheques and debit cards before the account could be closed, but any outstanding payments (including CPAs) would still be honoured and you had to sign to agree to this.

    For savings accounts, they needed written confirmation to close and where to put any due interest. In branch they can print off the forms for you and you just sign. I remember I got 2p of due interest transferred :D

    Probably why they no longer allow closure via OLB/Phone.
