So why not transfer direct to your bank account then?auntymabel wrote: »I said to the counter clerk that I could take anyone in and say it was him and she shrugged and agreed.
I think that they would ask some security questions or ask for proof from the account holder, before letting some random person convert a sole to a joint acc.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

might be of interest.
Might it be useful for POA to be arranged anyway? https://www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney/overview

If your Relative needs to go to the bank at any time, presumably someone could take her in a wheelchair? http://www.betterlifehealthcare.com/products.php?search_filter=0&catID=6&subID=346&pg=1&set_records_per_page=10000000&show_offers=0&search=0&search_text=&gclid=CM3-0rTJn7cCFVDMtAodpGAAAw0 -

Be aware that there are two type of LPA, finance and welfare. It sounds like finance is the one you need now, but I would strongly consider getting your aunt to set up both.0 -
The best solution is for your aunt to set up a Power of Attorney to formally authorise one of you to operate the account within whatever limits your aunt is content to allow. If the bank has a local form to set this up then fine but otherwise get a solicitor to draw one up.
That said it many be best to arrange a Lasting Power of Attorney

This will ensure that you can help her even if there are any changes to her mental capacity in the future since at that point it become more difficult to arrange.
While LPOA is primarily intended for situations that prevent someone dealing with their financial affairs, its also possible to use it when the person has difficulties of the kind you describe. I have LPOA for someone who could get to a bank if they are provided with assistance and who finds helplines, computers security questions confusing. So its not that they cannot manage their affairs but that they find it difficult to do so.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
