DVD player only plays .avi or .mpg

I have cheap dvd player in the bedroom that only recognises .avi or .mpg clip on a memory stick, is there a real easy way (for a layman) to play .mwv files on the dvd player?

No, is the simple answer. They are Windows Media files (.wmv). You'll have to convert them.0
