Thanks for all your comments. It looks like the hotel is not going to provide beer or lager - just limited house wine and soft drinks. I'm rather disappointed with First Choice that they don't ensure that the hotel offers the local beer, wine and soft drinks as a minimum. They should also make it clear in their brochure that beer is not included.

It's the Hotel Panorama in Maiori, Italy. Apart from the lack of beer, it gets some really good reviews - particularly for the food.

I've been to a few places in Italy recently. Decent wine was very cheap and beer was very expensive. Some places didn't even have a local beer and what they did have cost more than a bottle of wine. Italian men mostly drink wine too. Countries differ and the AI package will probably reflect that.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Hubby went on a break with the lads a few years ago and beer made him ill (tummy) so he ended up buying bottled beer (still cheaper than at home) that was in spain - it seems that the hotel never cleaned its pipes because there was always a minute amount of cleaner running through it!!
AI holidays should include local beer/wine/spirit you will always have to pay for branded stuff (martini/bells etc) but when away just try the local stuff, it's usually pretty good and yes depending where you go the bar will "charge" after maybe 11 or 12pm.
Just go with the flow and adapt if the beer is carp just go for something else and enjoy you holiday.

Read the third review down by user Mathew135, he had a similar complaint whilst staying there and the hotel general manager has replied stating he did "meet their needs". Might be worth contacting the hotel direct and see if they will do the same for you.

AI is still quite a new concept in Italy, First Choice will have agreed what they will provide but this may well be just wine and soft drinks as a boat trip I went onin Italy a few years ago only offered these options

Just returned from my holiday, and everything was OK. In May there had been a bit of a problem with the drinks on offer, as the hotel was new to all inclusive, but everything has now been sorted out. The holiday rep had even organised some refunds to customers who had paid for some of their drinks. I can't recommend the Hotel Panorama in Maiori enough - the staff were fantastic and we were never short of drinks!
