Devoid of comments, perhaps, because they set up a new company every so often when internet comment becomes too negative?
I can answer that, too: no. It's a brand recognition thing.
YS was created as an umbrella brand when the original (horribly-named) business became successful, and as a recognisable name for franchising, advertising and all dealings. Standard brand recognition process.
The old names still exist, I believe, as part of the YS "group", but they don't use them any more because the brand covers them all in one now.
Background: I was part of the branding process, so I know why he did it. And if you'd seen some of the godawful domain names from before, you'd see why. :rotfl:0 -
I knew I'd heard of Springbok before, are they park of Springbok Properties? There is currently a few around Leeds up for sale and one of which I went to view when it was with a high street EA.
I don't know anything about them but the property I had previously viewed had £10k knocked of the asking price when they put it on. Since then there has been a further £15k knocked off the price and has taken 6 months to sell so not exactly a fast sale.0 -
If you need a quick sale, I'd really consider an auction rather than a quickbuy company like this - buyers are locked in from when the hammer falls, and in this market your property might even be bid to a decent price (though auction properties do tend to sell cheaper than those through an agency).
If you don't need a quick sale, go through an agency.
I'm not sure why you'd use a quick buy company instead of one of the above options. Investment buyers know that property auctions exist, of course, so it would be odd if they paid you more than they could get a similar property for at auction. You may save on auction/estate agent fees (which aren't peanuts, but nor are they *that* big a percentage of the sale). If the quick buy company are lovely and efficient people to deal with you may also have less hassle than with a conventional sale - but this potential benefit is more than off-set by the fact that an alarming number of these companies are scum sucking bottom dwellers, and there's therefore a serious risk that they'll shaft you.
Don't know anything about Yellow Springbok, but hard to think of circumstances where using a quick buy company is ever the best option.0 -
One appalling name that comes to mind is the 'Get an Offer' agency!
Some of them really are awful. Obviously whoever he paid to set up the websites believed in EMD.I knew I'd heard of Springbok before, are they park of Springbok Properties?
Yes, same group/company. Different branch - the SP bit is more "normal" estate agency, if I remember correctly.I don't know anything about them but the property I had previously viewed had £10k knocked of the asking price when they put it on. Since then there has been a further £15k knocked off the price and has taken 6 months to sell so not exactly a fast sale.
The exact process depends on the situation. They do normal estate agency stuff as well or they might have bought the property themselves if it was a quick sale.
It's not really my place to defend them or anything. I just happen to have a half-inside view, so figured I'd share.bitsandpieces wrote: »Don't know anything about Yellow Springbok, but hard to think of circumstances where using a quick buy company is ever the best option.
In all honesty, I can't think of a situation where it is either, but such circumstances must exist because the companies are out there and making money.
As people have said, far too many of them are scum-sucking bottom dwellers (much like most of the short-term loan companies), but at least one or two have some scruples and decency. I honestly wouldn't work for the bad ones. Ewwww!0 -
Just wanted to add an additional note. I got back in touch with the Springbok folks to see whether things have changed in the last couple of years since I went on to other work. They have. Significantly.
Springbok now targets primarily the "fast estate agency" market - selling in less time than a traditional agent, but with less of a discount. They still do the cash buying part, as one branch of the overall flowchart (as it were) but it's not their primary focus.
They are still, I am pleased to say, the same nice people as before. The company's bigger. Everyone who was there 2 years ago is still on staff, which is a good sign in my opinion.
So there you go. Just thought I should correct myself a bit, since my info was a touch out of date, though still applicable.1 -

Always nice to read a reasoned, intelligent response. :rotfl:
Not a spammer - just someone who seriously considers what they say online and doesn't like leaving a thread with unanswered questions or, in this case, facts or opinion which I'd posted and were not up to date. Forums are, after all, for sharing what we know and, unless I'm sorely mistaken, having more information is generally better than having less.
If no one posts any further comments, the thread will die on its own.0 -
I have just signed up with them after weighing all the pros and cons of using a HS agent. The link on allagents gives some good reviews. So far everything has been swift and smooth on their part.Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. ~Confucius0

Just about to put our place on the market and not looking forward to dealing with an Estate Agent (I have visions of someone in a shiny suit, driving a wrapped Mini ...)
Saw one of Springboks banner ads and clicked it against my better judgement. I would normally assume companies like this exist to take a pound of flesh off sellers in distress but is this one different?0
