Best Sat Nav at present?
Since I'm getting a new car tomorrow I thought I'd take a look at the sat nav market and see what's available. I've currently got a tom tom which is great but I really dislike the window mount - the sat nav never looks level and often falls off the window. My last sat nav was a navigon and was great until the charger socket broke after 6 months use.
What would you say is the best make to look at now? I'll be looking for a higher end sat nav but want it to work well and have plenty of features like getting my phone contacts on it, etc.

If I were to buy a separate sat nav I would look at Garmin due to having free traffic updates.
When i used a sat nag i simply downloaded the tomtom app for my iphone and bought a decent phone holder.
The tomtom app is no longer on my phone so if necessary ill use apple maps.
However this is rare as I now own a car with built in sat nav...0 -
if I was replacing my Garmin
it would be one of the new 5" models

As for falling off. My Garmin is solid as a rock on the OE suction mount0 -
Not a great fan of window suckers myself.
I have a Brodit Proclip for my phone and they also make satnav holders for the majority of cars and systems. They are easy to fit and robust.0 -

Thanks for the prompt replies. I have been reading great things about garmin satnavs and was looking at the nuvi 3598LMT-D because it has lifetime map and traffic updates but the £299 price tag makes me shudder.0

I quite like the look of that. Will look into it a bit more.oldagetraveller wrote: »" I've currently got a tom tom which is great but I really dislike the window mount - the sat nav never looks level and often falls off the window."

Don't like the idea of that (Not sure how it'd work on a new style fiesta stereo).0 -
I would avoid TomToms. TT used to be the market leader but they seem to release awful updates which brick the devices or cause them to lost postcode entry or cause them to lose voice guidance.
TT UK customer support is based in Eire and you could not find a less interested bunch of advisors who make you feel that you are a menace encroaching on their time. I find that calling the Dutch Customer Support Team is far better and nearly of them speak perfect English..
I'm still trying to resolve the loss of voice guidance after the last update and I cannot be bothered to spend 4-5 hours backing up and reloading the data. The man without a signature.0 -

Thanks, that's really useful info. I've never done an update on my Tom Tom because I won't be forced to pay for it but if I'm buying a sat nav with free lifetime updates, I want to make the most of it
