Do they have a digital radio?
My mum can't read anymore and a few years ago we all put in to buy one. I spent time finding one with big buttons (took some time to explain to DH why slinky touch screen was no good!) and set the presets. Theres a lot of extra stuff available, 4extra for example has a lot of dramas etc
Its used daily, most successful present ever!0 -
Would they be up to going out for lunch or afternoon-tea with you one day? Maybe a post-Christmas treat as something to look forward to? We do this with DH's parents as they don't "need" anything either.
I was going to suggest the bird-feeding station as we did that a couple of years ago & its been very successful. Apart from the squirrels, but that gave us something else to buy - a squirrel-proof feeder!0 -
Afternoon tea would be a really good idea that I think they'd enjoy if we could find somewhere with easy access, except we'd have to pay for 6 of us to go and we can't afford that sadly. Maybe I could organise an afternoon tea at our house ...
I will ask MIL about a digital radio, sounds like it might be good although I've no idea how much they cost.
You're all putting forward such good ideas, they are just so difficult to buy for!0 -
How about an afternoon tea for the 6 of you that goes to them? Make some posh crustless butties (cucumber, smoked salmon using value pieces
etc), cakes, scones, get their best tea set out, big pot of tea, napkins, the full works! You could even treat them to a small bottle of fizz to make it a "champagne tea"

Digital radios are not that expensive at Asda or Tesco
And it's all good ideas for me and probably other folk too!0 -

boredjellybean - sorry i think you may have left it too late this year, if you want them to be ready at christmas you need to buy the specially prepared 'forced' bulbs and start planting in sept.
I forgot myself this year as DD3 normally does a bowl of hyachincs for her 3 grans. i thought it would be ok as shes really into baking now and could do them cupcakes, but then DD2 told me grandma said to her not to get her flowers as DD3 always does then added your mum usually get the bowl back off me in the summer so im guessing im getting a new bowl as well this year OPPPS!! i will be having a look round shops and market stalls for some to see if there are any i can pass off as homegrown. usually i write in my new diary plant blubs for christmas in septs page t remind me but this year i forgot.
hope everyone is well
you all certainly look organised
oh poo !!!
I just assumed that you bought bulbs shoved them in a pot & waited for spring?
I will pop to Mr T & grab something & plant it or perhaps just get a little shrub or something from the garden centre0 -

Yes you can still plant some bulbs in november, in fact it's the best time to plant tulips. I'm disorganised and have planted daffs and snowdrops right into december with no ill effects (i'm in London). But if you can, get them from a garden centre or bulb supplier rather than a supermarket as (hopefully) they will have kept the bulbs in the right conditions.0

They are both in their 90's.
these puzzles books from BNIB shop are good for failing eyesight http://www.rnib.org.uk/shop/Pages/Category.aspx?Category=puzzle_magazines (and the cube clock that speaks the time & date is brilliant).
They also have extra large wordsearch books but I often find that those aimed at children have large print & so I can usually pick them up from TheWorks and places like that - I just check that they're not too babyish.
What about an oversized pack of playing cards?0 -
My husband's birthday is now over so I feel like it is a very short time before I can start getting properly excited about Christmas!
I made my cranberry sauce yesterday and froze it. A few weeks ago I made my Christmas cake (which reminds me I need to feed it!) and hm mincemeat, and chilli jam (which is an essential for us over the Christmas period with the cheese board and cold meats etc). I am going to do my Christmas pudding at the weekend (stir up Sunday!)
Presents are virtually all bought apart from one or two little bits for grandparents and a couple of stocking fillers for stepdaughter. She is getting driving lessons as her main present and hubby keeps saying he will get some CDs or something so she has something to open, but I am not convinced so I have put myself in charge of the smellies and girly stocking fillers so she will actually get some!0
