leaking pipe which I supect is from upstairs flat

hiya,

The above is happening to me.None of the water appliances in my flat are overflowing, bath, toilet sink etc.I dropped a note into the neighbours to have them to take a look. They replied saying that they would monitor the situation...over a week ago.The water is still dripping.

#1 How can I make sure that it is not any of my pipes that are causing this?
#2 what should I do if I find out that it isn't indeed my pipes.

I get on quite well with my neighbours, but I want this issue resolved asap. The water is dripping down onto my flat.I know that it can't be guttering, becasue it was still dripping when we had over a week without rain.

Any advice?

cheers,

yogi

is your flat layout the same as upstairs ?
will they let you in to take a look ?
water can travel, but if you can identify roughly where in their flat its coming from, you'll be half way there.I presume you have wooden ceiling (plasterboard and joists)
if it were me, i wouldn't be writing notes,i'd be banging on their door :D

    hiya,

just to be clear, the water isn't coming in thru my ceiling, it's coming from an outside overflow pipe that's dripping onto my window sill and the outside wall...not great for the building.

  • is it their toilet overflow?

as agent orange says this sounds like it could be the toilet overflow, is it continually running or dripping?

If it is and you get on well with your neighbour just ask them to flush their toilet, if it stops for a few seconds you have pinpointed the problem.

if you have pinpointed it, the ballcock is either stuck or just needs adjusting slightly (both easy to resolve)

dam, i was gonna have you ripping up floorboards in their flat next:D

yup as the others say, sounds like an adjustment to their ballcock is needed.

Or you could make a water feature out of it, a few fish, plants, etc

or it could be from some water tank in a loft, still a ballcock job,

or you could install some pipe to the overflow and a waterwheel and be eco friendly.

must be that frothy coffee i just drank;)

    hiya,

It was the upstair neighbour's central heating system and a ballcock issue in their loft. They got someone out to fix it.So, all good.I just hope they don't try and pass the cost off as "communal maintenance" I assume that this would be unreasonable? After all, it was their plumbing and heating that was at fault.

    cheers,
