Freeview via Cable? - Advice Needed

  • No sorry, I am using a portable aerial in the bedroom. I don't fancy trying to take the cable from the external aerial from the roof to the bedroom as it doesn't go through the attic. Hope this makes sense.

My advice is to thoroughly read the advice given freely by a good South Yorkshire installer at his website aerialsandtv.com

It will, in part, depend on your precise location in the Manchester area - but you can get a reception prediction for your address from the UK's spectrum planners http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/postcodechecker/ (use the detailed view). NB if the loft space has foil-backed plasterboard or insulating foam it will block TV signals into it (possibly why the room aerial won't work)?

Aerials are quite cheap so I just went for a mid range hi-gain item from Maplin (fitted it on a whim so no time to shop around). Selection not much of a challenge since I've got line of sight to Winter Hill.
If you mount your aerial, either use a magnetic compass and align to the bearing given by the reception predictor (click detailed view), or look at your neighbours aerial alignment with respect to their roof ridges and set yours the same, in the loft. Make sure you set the right polarity, ie all the elements are horizontal or vertical as per your neighbours.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc
