Hi, I am trying to set a laptop up to a wireless router! It keeps saying limited or no connectivity although the signal strength says excellent! What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to fix it?

have you entered the routers encryption code on the laptop
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

I had this when I setup my brother-in-laws router and tried to connect to a OLD laptop/wireless card.

The card maybe too old and not able to use the encryption method used by a newer router.

Look at the routers support pages for FAQ's

PS: By removing the secuirty/encryption from the router it then connected fine, only as temp messure whilst he bought a new card (not ideal but proved it worked).

The limited connection is displayed if you have an incorrect IP address. either becasue you have ntered a static ip address that is not in the same range as the router or there is a problem getting an ip address issued by the DHCP server in the router.

click start, run and type cmd in the box and hit enter

in the command window type ipconfig/all

the screen will tell your ip configuration for your network adaptors on your laptop.
    post your findings on here
    Dhcp enabled yes or no
    IP address ?
    subnet mask ?
    default gateway ?
    dhcp server ?
    dns servers ?

this will give me a clue where to start, I expect it will be that you have an IP address manually entered enableing dhcp should sort the problem, if not then try a repair of the network connection by right clicking on the icon next to the clock in the botom right and clicking repair.

The encryption isnt an issue, it is connected to the router if it was an encryption problem you wouldnt get the connection at all.

    see post 2

lj, that's not correct, limited or no connectivity can come up when the encryption key or type doesn't match, or mac address filtering is on.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
