We've had the car bangernomics thread, what about a motorbike one.

I've got a bike just now, but am always looking for something cheap and cheerful.

My most expensive bike was a Hayabusa at £2200, but apart from that, most have been cheap and cheerful.

So here's my current steed.

Paid £620 if I remember correctly, dont think it had an MOT (but passed no problems). It's also had a battery and is currently needing the carbs put back on and the fuel tank fitted to get it back on the road (hopefully by Sunday).

It's a 1981 gsx750.

Previous bike was a gsxr600. Bought for £650, spent around £100 then sold for £950 a year later.

Excellent stuff. I had a Suzuki GSF600 aka 'The Nail' which cost me £500 as a winter hack.

Same motor as the Bandit got. Very heavy and quality 90's graphics on it but a solid bike that handled well.

Sold it for £750 I think!
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I've got a 1998 Yamaha 900 Diversion I paid £750 for about three years ago. It's gone round the clock now but still runs really nice and is (for me) an ideal commuter. New parts are fairly cheap and plenty of second hand bits around. Ran it down to Devon last year and it didn't miss a beat.

My wife did suggest buying a newer bike but just to run the 15 miles into London and back again each day it would be a waste.

The key thing with motorbikes is the way way prices fluctuate around the summer biking season down in the autumn and then back up in spring. Time it right and you can make a tidy bit of profit.

Currently on a 2003 Fazer 600. Not quite a banger, was pretty good looking until some t**t decided to swap lanes into me last month... grrrr . Probably going to end up Cat-D purely because the fairing is cracked!

    KLE500 for £450.

GPZ500 engine, wiring harness & seat. DIY chain oiler, bits of bodywork held on with cable ties and painted NATO green.

Gets me through winter just nicely

Was it cheap as chips in the spirit of bangernomics? Then yes it does. :)
