just out in porch having a ciggie and this cat runs in! refuses to leave! its obviously well cared for but seems scared. what do I do? leave it there? chuck it out? my instinct is to leave it - it seems a well loved cat but it seems scared and resists my efforts to get it to leave!
my OH is gonna freak if I take it in - but the cat refuses to go and I haven't the heart to just chuck it out. it keeps looking out and then grooming itself like there is no tomorrow!

I'd leave it till morning. It will probably feel less stressed after a sleep in a warm place.Sigless0

he seems freaked and senses a safe person, who knows what has happened. maybe post some flyers so the original cares can find him.0
-
Let it stay if possible for now, offer some food and milk/water.
Maybe something has terrified the poor thing and it just needs a bit of time to calm down?0 -
Leave him there if he's calm.
I came home one afternoon to find a strange cat behind the TV, he was obviously very frightened as he's already pee'd himself, when I tried to get him out he peed all over the sideboard, carpet and sofa, it took me weeks to get rid of the smell. I really, really wish i'd just left him to leave of his own accord.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Phone your local vet and ask for advice. It's not unknown for cats to run into strangers houses in panic and fear after being hit by a car. There's a chance it could have unseen injuries.0

Has he gone yet?0

yes - sorry, I should have posted earlier!
I sat with the cat for a while and it became calmer and crawled on my lap for a cuddle. it didn't seem injured just scared! perhaps it came across a dog or fox? I was really tired and tried putting cat outside and it sat and groomed a while, looked back at me and sauntered off!
I think it was just scared and hid behind the first human it saw! I also think I recognise it - but it wasn't wearing the red collar it usually has on........this black cat has visited my garden before a few times but it wears a red collar. Lives up the street I think. she is very well looked after I think, well fed, glossy fur. nosy little beggar who likes to look through my patio doors!0
