Problems with neighbour!

Thanks for some of the replys i really appriciate it.
Im not putting fencing on my side as we have already had someone out to look at this and we would loose some garden and as we would have to have new concrete bases put in it would be a bigger cost for us and we really cant afford to do this. Her car is big enough to transport fence panels and ive even advised her that the local diy store deliver for a small fee.
I know she can afford to replace the panels from prevouis conversations. I dont think she has waited for the warmer weather as according to my other neighbour the garden has always been a tip. (ive not lived here long).
I think the dog issue and the fence issue tie in together. If the dog was walked on a regular basis or had a garden to run about in, it would not be getting frustrated and destroying fence panels, hence why i mentioned both. Also i feel getting another dog would add to this problem.
Again i really dont see why i should have to pay out my hard earned money to replace something that is her fault has been destroyed. I would pay out money and then see them destroyed again only for her to leave them as they are??
Like i said we are happy to do the labour and i dont mind if its one fence panel at a time as long as progress is being made.
I think i will knock tomorrow just to say that the dog has been at the fence again and ask if there would be any progress made soon. I might very sweetly mention that it might be a tad frustrated and offer to take it for walks if she doesnt have the time.
Becles thankyou for that information, do you know if it applies on purchased houses?0 -
I have similar problems to you, so I can sympathise.
It would seem that your neighbour has put off doing the fencing long enough for you to get the message that she's not going to do it. In that case, i would take a previous poster's suggestion to put some fencing on your side, but make it clear that any damage will be claimed from her. Maybe put up some chicken wire fencing behind the wooden panels to keep the dog away. You are obviously more concerned about the state of your garden than she is of her's, so it's a priority to you not her.
As for the dog, well why not ring the RSPCA and ask their advice? There are plenty of animal shelter organisations and charities that would offer some advice too I'm sure. Even speak to your local pet store to see what they suggest.
In my case I have the same issue with a dog living next door that has never been in the back garden or walked in the 18 months I've lived here. I hear it bark when the postman arrives, and when she has visitors, but I couldn't tell you what it looks like, but I'd guess it is mid-sized (it's not a yapper). She told my boyfriend that her dog was her 'baby' and she spoils him; erm, well no wonder you don't have your 3 kids living with you then!
Her back garden has a current weed height of 3ft, and it's been such lovely weather to improve the speed of growth this year too. 5 fence panels blew over earlier this year, and we have a lovely open plan view of it all. The local cats love it though, both for mutual toileting, chasing mice and not having to climb fences to travel anymore. I will be replacing the panels now the weather is warmer (I'm a fairweather gardener), as it's clear she's not going to, and it matters more to me than her.
What I have a real issue with is having to listen to her bedroom antics with a multitude of 'partners', who turn up at all hours, and have little regard for any neighbour who might have to endure the noise. She might as well have a revloving door put on the front to cope with the numbers, and she's not exactly coy about it - quite blatant in fact.
Sometimes people just don't care what other's think, or how they have to cope with living near them, and up against that attitude you're banging your head against a brick wall. Do what you can to make your own life a bit easier, it's sometimes all you can do.
If the house were council owned, I'd suggest calling them to complain, as it would be against a tenancy agreement. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Oh dear im sorry to hear what you have to put up with!
Your exactly right though she doesnt care so it is of no bother to her. Its a real shame as one of the first things we did when we moved in here was replace our side fence panels as they were looking a bit worse for wear and we knew it would reflect on our neighbours garden. They were really gratful, even offered some money, which we declined and i felt a whole lot better for doing it as i had improved my garden and theirs.
But why should she fork out for fence panels when her garden is such an overgrowth anyways. Looks like im not going to get it done!
I have however decided to replace the front on simply because it looks bloody awful and i dont want anyone thinking its me left it like that. Im also hoping it will shame her to knock the door so i can tell her i had no choice but to replace it as it was letting the front of my house down, maybe then she will get the hint.
I hope your neighbour calms her bedroom antics down, it cant be nice to listen to!
Many thanks for your post!0 -
it's a shame when things like this happen, I think that maybe you should just check your deeds to see if there is a covernant that states that they have to kep thee boundaries in good condition etc but I do think that you maybe onto a loosing battle with her, I don't think she does care nor is bothered about falling out with you over it, you have already gone over and above with trying to aid her to do the fence and I understand fully your resistance in putting up fencing your side, not only for the expence and hassle but why should you have to? but sometimes life it just too short, you have to weigh it up, you cna either look at the horrible fence and not wish to use the garden or put up another one of your own choice that will finally bring an end to this saga0

Does the dog come into your back garden as the panel is down?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

Yes - you need to check the deeds to your home. If you don't have a copy ask either your mortgage lender or the solicitor who did the work when you bought your home for a copy. Or you might be able to download a copy from the Land Registry www.landregistry.gov.ukHere I go again on my own....0 -

It comes into the garden due to the hole it made in the fence.
It done it to 1 fence panel which i boarded up then proceeded to do it to the others so they all now have something covering the hole. I really dont think i should have to check my garden for dog crap before my young children can go into our own garden to play. Its very frustrating.
My nan and grandad are going to get a fence panel for the front today as my car is not big enough (another gripe as her car is more than big enough to get them). They are going to put it up whilst im at work this afternoon. Im hoping she comes home see's it and feels embarressed that ive had to replace a panel she has been promising to do. Although she will probably be pleased she has not had to fork out for it!
Also my nan is quite outspoken so if she comes home whilst they are out there my nan will (in a sweet old lady way lol) tell her i was getting peeved off. hehe
Its a catch 22 it really is! Im replacing the front one, will she know think 'great i will leave the back ones for her to do as well'...?
I'd like to replace the back ones with a 10ft brick wall lol...
Becles thank you very much!!! Im going to look into that now!0 -
I know it's not what you want to hear, but she obviously doesn't care about her dog or her property and I think the only way you'll get your fence issue sorted is to pay for it yourself unfortunately.

Looking objectively at this, I cant see how the fact its overgrown affects the dog being able to run in it. Dogs adore overgrown grass. I guess it depends on the dog.
I have 2 small terriers and a 250 foot garden. Mine rarely go out for walks because they would much rather dart up and down the garden with a ball than walk restrictively on a lead. This doesnt mean they are neglected in any way.
My neighbours have a same size garden and one medium sized dog, however, he is never walked or let loose in the garden. If he is out he is chained to a six foot chain. Now in this situation I do think its cruel, but the RSPCA tell me that as the animal is fit and healthy its not an issue.
I guess what Im trying to say is without knowing the situation first hand its difficult to say "Call the RSPCA!". Nobody has asked how big this dog, or the garden is.0 -
Its not just overgrown grass though it has tables and chairs hidden and toys and rubble plau other things. So he cant run about. He's a medium sized dog and the garden is about 50ft so not really enough for him to get a good exercise in even if it was cleared i dont think.
We also live near a MASSIVE field where most people let the dogs of the lead for a play so there is no excuse really.
Ive also noticed now that the warmer weather is here the poo mings a bit. I think it mainly goes on the 'patio' area and its just hosed away.
Anyways my new fence panel will be here soon, thank the lord for grandparents who have collected it for me. Ive also set aside some time tonight to look through the deeds of our house. I really never knew anything like that excisted, i mentioned it to my nan and she said she has one on her house where shes not allowed a caravan in her garden and such like.
Thanks again everyone0
