No...we tried corresponding with them and then their correspondence stopped all together, which is when we got the solicitor involved (i am out of my depth with all of this which is why we got the solicitor involved as it was just getting to stressful, i was hoping that by having a legal person represent us that they would correspond, however this has not happened)

Wow, this makes me sad that you are still having this issue. Phone them and make the complaint over the phone. You really don't need a solicitor to be involved.

I guess a lot depends on who the CI policy was with, and what you're claiming for on it.

I know when I claimed on my CI policy (through Aviva) for Hodgkin's Lymphoma a couple of years ago that the process was straight forward and far less hassle than I expected it to be.

I had to get my consultant to fill in a form and send off the info they'd requested.

It was settled within a few weeks of putting in the claim and I only had to speak to them 3 times. Firstly to lodge the claim, secondly to go through a phone 'interview' which took about 15-20 mins and then finally when they called to say the claim had been accepted.

I can only imagine there's something in the policy which is holding them up and somewhere along the line it's been put 'on-the-back-burner' so to speak.

I hope it gets sorted out for you.
  • Some claims are indeed more complicated than others but 10 months for a cancer claim is absolutely disgraceful. Even if they are shopping for evidence for non-disclosure they would have got it by now.

did you put the data protection act request in as suggested? this HAS to be dealt with in X amount of days. It is a requirement under the act. It costs £10 but man it will wake them up.

short of making an official complain im not sure what to suggest.

Out of curiosity who is the insurer? It might have Halifax stamp on it but it will be a different company underwriting it. Some insurers have dedicated claims handlers which makes everything a whole lot easier but i would have to be recommending a policy to my clients if when it came to payout stage they were taking 6, 7 or 8 months to payout.
