Hi, i'm new to this site, and would like some advice if anyone can offer it please. I want to get a new credit card to do a 0 % balance transfer on my current card, which occupation would I be best to enter on the application ? as I am all 3 : homemaker, student, and unemployed. I know it can make a difference as to whether it's accepted or not. I've already applied for one card and put student down, the reply said I would need a student current account first.
Has anyone been in a similar situation.
THANKS in advance.

Yeah I'm in a similar boat - student and part time employed. I tend to apply with my part time job as "employment status" - I think putting student puts creditors off but I'd love to hear anyone else's opinion.
You might want to clarify on "homemaker" (forgive me for not really knowing what that is). If you're unemployed, you're VERY unlikely to get a card as lenders want to see fixed monthly income.
I think it'll be more importantly down to your annual income overall, however.0 -
To be honest all 3 are no better, I would be amazed if you got a balance transfer unless you had a regular salary.0

Thanks for the reply, yes i thought that about putting unemployed. Some applications have 'homemaker' as an option, it means housewife/stay at home mum. I wonder if I may be best calling in some banks and asking their advice.0

If you don't mind us asking, do you have a fixed annual income?0

No thats fine , its about £13,000, i have a credit card but the last 6 months have only been able to pay the minimum payment ,hence if i can get a 0 % transfer at least it will be going off the actual balance. The balance is about £1,400 .0

Ok fair enough, at least you have a fixed income. Is your credit history in reasonably good shape (no defaults or missed payments)?
I agree with you that, yes, you'd definitely want to be looking at a 0% balanace transfer to combat the CC balance.
You're probably best placed to put homemaker as your employment with the £13,000 annual income. As long as that's accurate and your credit report is in reasonable shape, you probably don't stand in a too bad position.0 -
I have just applied to Fluid, for the 15 month 0 % deal on transfers and 5 months on purchases, and have been accepted.
Thank goodness for that, at least now the balance is getting paid a little quicker. I ended up putting 'homemaker' on the app form.
Thank you both for your interest in helping, its nice to know that a forum like this is here for people when they need some advice.
Good luck yourself. x0
