Yes Inkie give it a go. Bearing in mind that the NCT classes are £200 say £100 to £150 . You could make it a social thing as well. I certainly would have liked to have a registered midwife available when mine where tiny as a 'friend' to ring and ask questions to.
I am a volunteer for my local branch of the NCT, and £200 is at the top end of the price scale for antenatal class fees. Our branch charges £120. Generally fees are higher in areas where wages are higher. The charity as a whole is trying to even fees out a bit more across the country though so that there is not so much difference.
Good luck though Inkie - I should think there could be a lot of demand, as in many areas NCT classes are hugely oversubscribed, so the more people offering support and well-informed education to expectant couples the better.0 -
Has anyone taken the classes the second time round or is it really just for first timers... so to speak ?[/QUOTE]
Some NCT branches run refresher classes for 2nd and 3rd time mums. It's worth ringing to find out if they run them.0 -
My wife and I did the NCT classes last year ahead of our daughter arriving in November and we did the 2 all day sessions as the evening classes were full
We found them to be extremely helpful and enjoyable and there was still plenty of time during breaks/lunch to get to know the other couples- especially as there was only another 7/8 couples on the course
We are still in regular contact with all bar 1 of the couples we met and my wife meets up with the other mums regularly for coffee/chat/walks which they've all enjoyed
We also did the antenatal at the hospital and that served a purpose too (let you know how things would work in practice at that particular hospital etc.) but the classes were massive (15/20 couples) so you didn't get that much chance to interact with others
So in summary yes they are worth it0
