I always ask about the long term development of the role. I say something like 'in year one I would see myself <learning your systems, getting business knowledge, etc> in year two <implementing, streamlining etc> - what do you see as the long term development of the role?

Also if you really cant think of anything, ask a little about who you will report to, who will report to you, and where the team sit s in the organsiation.

Obviously depends on what kind of job.

For weakness I tell them something that is mostly true - I used to not be very good at telling people things they dont want to hear. My inclination is to be non confrontational and work with people.

In previous job x and previous position y I learnt the value of giving people difficult information in a timely way and developed skills to be able to present it non confrontationally. <Give example of where I told someone something difficult they didnt want to hear but ultimately helped the project progress>. Now I consider that part of my excellent communication and team working skills.

Its better than saying 'I'm just too awesome' or 'I just care too much'.
  • One that seems to work well for me at the mo, is to ask about the achievements/targets of the person being replaced (can come after asking why the position is available!) - gives you a good insight also as to what will be expected. I asked this the other day and the interviewer really expanded.

My negative used to be sometimes I can be perceived as being a bit slow, the upside is more attention to detail
Hate having to get my positives & negatives ready! then their not asked!! d'oh!

I don't enjoy interviews where I am asked about other applications and so far found that can catch you out!

I absolutely agree, don't mention that. Being labelled as 'quiet' is very bad for you.

Exactly. Especially in the line of work I'd be looking at :)
