eBay resolution dispute

I should know given I've been on it 10 years, anyway...
Sold an item perfect new.
Buyer claims it has a hole & starts a dispute, saying they could get it fixed
(Read: 'I want a partial refund)
I said, I want a picture of the damage.
He has not responded since opening the case
This was a week ago
I don't want to 'escalate' because eBay are biased to buyers & will request they return it
How long are these cases open before eBay close the case?
I can't make b loody purchased due to the PayPal holding transaction - can I just transfer funds to my PayPal

You would be best to offer the 'return for a full refund' option.
Do NOT escalate, as it will count against you as Ebay will ask the buyer to return, then will probably give them an instant refund.
Cases are staying open (without escalation) for 30 days.
There is a lot of talk on the Ebay forum about the new cases, the consensus is to avoid escalation at all costs.0 -
Thanks for the info
After 30days do they close or get esclated anyway?
£65 is being held, but assume I can transfer funds from bank to make purchases? Managed to make purchases with sold item funds even with £65 being held so long it remained positive balance..0 -
They only get escalated if you or the buyer escalate.
If nothing happens (ie it isn't escalated) then it times out at 30 or 31 days - it seems to depend on the actual time it was opened and BST versus whatever timescale Ebay use.
Block the buyer from any future purchases and don't update or prompt them to do anything to the case.
Try not to worry about it. The £65 is in cyberspace, so you cannot transfer that, but just carry on as normal without it.0 -
Thanks for that
I have been prompting him but will stop now
Can I still make purchase with my linked account? I seem to think not until resolution?0 -
AFAIK the funds will be held, so just think of them as invisible. If you go into a negative balance by using them it may cause problems, but I am not authority on this.
I would pretend you have £0 in there and fund purchases as you would with £0 in there.0 -
If I hadn't sold anything, my account would be -65, if the case timed out after 30days?! That doesn't seem right or fair. Because technically I should have more in there then is displayed, and this balance is preventing the transfer of funds to my bank account.
If that is correct, it should not be allowed because it is theft
I don't know what my options - I know there was no problem with the item, the guy hasn't responded, I can't esclate and I won't give a partial refund til I've seen pictures0
