Easyjet Cabin Baggage

Hi all,

On planning my trip away in September i have been searching for a new cabin bag for my trip, however ive just seen this on the easyjet website:

http://easyjet.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5832/session/L3RpbWUvMTM2ODcxNjk0NS9zaWQvX2VuQlRrcWw%3D

in particular this:

"if you bring ONE piece of cabin baggage no bigger than 50 x40 x 20cm including handles and wheels, we guarantee it will always travel with you either in the overhead locker or, if necessary, under the seat in front of you.
You can still choose to bring ONE slightly bigger bag up to the maximum size of 56 x 45 x 25cm including handles and wheels, but on some busy flights your bag may have to go into the hold."

does this mean i will get charged to put my case (which is H55, W41, D24cm) if they decide the flight is to busy?

No it means if you are at the front of the queue (not sure why people are still doing this with their assigned seating!!) your case will fit and if you are getting towards the back of the queue or a later boarder, they will announce that it's full and they will have to pop all remaining wheeled cases in the hold..

They might also, and this always has me gleefully rushing forward to offer mine to save me ramming my handbag back into it yet again, ask for volunteers to put their carry on cases in the hold at the beginning of a full flight, you then get on after the speedy boarders..

Two things to remember - carry a little padlock in case you are at the point in boarding where they take it off you because no more will fit and also think where you are going - our cases appeared as we arrived in baggage at gatwick but other places we have had a bit of a wait.

They usually ask for volunteers to put luggage in the hold when it's a busy flight. In return you get to board first :)

Sometimes it works well, last year we flew to Milan, had already checked in 2 cases but didn't want to pay for a third, so we volunteered for it to go free at the gate, made no difference to us as we had to wait for the other two anyway.

  • I would not be happy to put my carry on luggage in the hold, I allways have tablets, 2x cameras, and other things that I wouln't want handled as they do ,ie dropped from the plane to the floor on lots of occasions.

What's the big deal about boarding first on Easyjet, seat numbers are assigned (or at least they were on the last few flights I've been on with them) so it's not like you'll get a better seat.

No way I'd trust my cabin bag to baggage handlers and then have to wait for it at the other end, hoping it hasn't been nicked/damaged, unless I had to. Never had a problem with cabin bag storage on any Easyjet flights I've been on...Ryanair is another story!

You wouldn't volunteer then would you.

  • My bag goes onboard with me, the people that have oversize bags should be made to go in the hold , I suspect they would only do it once!! They think they are so clever but all they do is muck it up for everyone that does it properly

I wouldn't risk it, chances are they will charge you. I'm flying on the day the new regulations come in and am trying to find hand luggage to fit their measurements and a 17" laptop and my budget is £30 (nigh on impossible so far!). Easyjet have been canny as most bags are 51cm to 55 cm so I reckon lots of people will be caught out and end up paying for hold luggage so Easyjet will be quids in.

Why would you have to? Having to check hand luggage is a possibility on any flight, so the sensible thing to do is have a bag within your hand luggage that carries all the stuff you can't do without. And unless you rattle when you walk it's unlikely your pills couldn't fit into a coat pocket.

I think you've misunderstood. You can still take a bag up to the larger size (56cm) as hand luggage at no extra cost, however, easyJet are only guaranteeing to get your bag in the cabin if it meets the new smaller measurements.

If your bag is in the 51-55cm range, and they can't fit it in the cabin, it will be placed in the hold at no extra charge. They haven't reduced the maximum size you can take on... they're just saying that it may have to go in the hold if they run out of space. Which has always been the case (badoom-tsh!).
