Help with costs for DBS check.?

A friend of mine is hoping to start work in the care sector - which will involve going to clients homes - and her employer is asking her to pay for the DBS (formerly CRB).
The employer used to pay for the checks but doesn't anymore.
She is currently in receipt of JSA and wondered if there was any scheme that would help with the costs?
Her potential employer is asking for about £67 to do the check although on the gov.uk website it's £44 for an enhanced check and £6 for the care first - so £50 in my book. I guess the employer is slapping on an admin fee.??
All advice welcome...

The employer is probably using an umbrella body, and they'll be the ones adding an admin fee ...

I dont think there is any help available, I was asking the same a few weeks ago and the best I could find was to get a Budgeting Loan from the Job Centre and then pay them back. The minimum you can borrow is £100 though. They can be used for 'things to look for or start work' - From the Gov.uk website. There are a few conditions, you have to have been claiming Income based JSA or another qualifying benefit for 26 weeks or more.0

Unfortunately she hasn't been claiming that long - so I guess there is no help for her...

Dont ever pay for one of these pointless checks. Its a BUSINESS expense so they should cover it. Would you pay a fee to be interviewed to cover the interviewers time? Would you chip in if the company you worked for wanted to charge you for the electricity you use?0

Decent companies will pay for these doing if they want to employ you. That includes voluntary work.
Some places appear to be ripping people off with this and its a scam to get money for themselves when there is no actual work.0 -

In the care industry many employers do not pay for the check. It is not a scam, it is not because they are not decent employers, but because the work attracts a high number of applicants that do not stick around for very long.0 -
Dogger69 - Any decent company should be asking themselves why that is so.
The OP claims her friends employer is demanding that she pay for a DBS, yet in the next paragraph she says her friend is on JSA?
OP - if your friend doesn't have a written offer of employment, subject to DBS, tell her not to pay because that IS a scam.0 -
Dogger69 is right, alot of people dont stick around in the job for long, hence why they wont pay for it themselves.
A relative did this as a job, caring for the elderly in their own homes and if they didnt stay in the job for over a certain period of time they had to reimburse the employer for all the training they had put them through. Ive been lucky in that Ive had several of these done and the employer has always paid for them.0 -

Want to work for the company? Then you need this, if you don't want to pay for it then you don't work for the company...simplesDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0
