Bridesmaid gifts?

Okay my wedding is a long way away yet (2 yearsish!) but I wondered if you lovely lot could help me out.
Me and my HTB are paying for the bridesmaids dresses. shoes, flowers, hair etc as you usually would. I was also going to get them both some nice silver jewellery to wear on the day and perhaps give it to them a bit before the wedding.
Is it good etiquette to give them an additional gift or will the jewellery be seen as a gift in itself. I was going to make them both a personalised handmade card to say thank you for being part of our big day but I just wondered if I should be factoring in an additional gift for them both as part of the budget.

Aww thanks LEJC - I did think it was kind of okay myself but then started reading various wedding forums where people have got bridesmaids gifts as a thank you and got a bit panicky!!!!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

I had originally decided the same as you, but then as the parents, best man, grooms man etc would all be given their gifts at the reception I decided to get teh bridemaids a token gift (Perfume) as well.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0

ARGH! Don't tell me that Lazer - I'm back to where I started!
Might see how the budget goes at this rate. If I can afford a little something they might get a gift, if I can't then I'll hold onto the jewellery until I give out any other related gifts!
Is it bad I'm stressing about a wedding that's two frikken years away?!?!?!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0 -
Your plan would simply amaze your bridesmaids.0

I did the same as you paid for dresses ect.
I also did them a sleepover kit. I brought new Pj's, dressing gowns and fluffy flip flop slippers from Primark. Then in Jan sale I got No.7 wash kits in little handbags. I got them some fancy chocolates from hotel Chocolate and had them personlised champagne flutes done. I also got them a little teddy.
For their gifts at the recepition I brought giftbags from Ebay and put a cuddle pink Nessie toy in saying prettyness (i got married in Inverness) a heart shaped stone with friendship written on it, a small yankee candle called wedding day and some tiny bath bombsFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -

Hi, I have been planning my wedding for over two years and the same as you I thought dresses, flowers, shoes bit of jewellery to wear on the day would be fine. I then thought I would like to give them a small thank you at the reception so I wrote them each a thank you card and bought them a friendship plaque from our local candle time shop. They didn't cost too much but is a small token gift. Our budget couldn't really stretch to much else. I'd say if you see anything at a decent price (£3 or under) then buy it- unless it's chocolate - it will keep.0

Thank you for all your lovely contributions. HP3 - I think I like your idea best so far - Something small but personal as an extra thank you that won't break the bank!!!
I'll let you know how I get on!Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0 -
I was bridesmaid last summer for my best friend.. she paid for dresses and also picked and paid for jewellery she knew we would like + be able to wear again.. I wouldn't have dreamt of expecting a gift as well as all that!
I think a lovely card with some heartfelt words in would mean more than any gift xx.. or i agree with hp3 just a tiny token.. but really nothing necessary other than for them to know how much you love them ! aww
have a fab wedding x
(I'm not having bridesmaids at my wedding so not a problem for me)
