Credit Card Debt and Credit History Clearnace

hi All - Possibly my first post on this forum, I used to use A very diff one which has helped me in the past.

Basically very simple...

I had a Credit Card that I stopped paying in 2007/8 because I broke both ankles and was on SSP for 5 months. and I believed that my insurance covered payments etc etc anyway being young an naive I left it after that and never bothered, strangely the bank have Never chased me either....I recently found a house I would like to try and buy with my partner, checking my credit file I had 3 defaults and one late payment. 2 of them have never belonged to me, I have sorted these and should be ff any day now. the Third is my Credit Card...

Now Does anybody have a clue how to go about this strategically, I want to pay it of to get the best rating on my credit file, I would email/write to them but Can I offer terms.i.e. off or lower default rating in offer to pay it in full. or anything such as this.

thanks for taking a look all.

Many Thanks.

What is the default date? They come off after 6 years anyway.

Remember to check all 3 agencies for your credit report.

    thanks for your replies

    Default 09/11/2008 so it's a while yet.

I have tried Equifax and Annualcreditreport.com and am attempting Experian but they are awkward. Annual Credit gave me a better score than Equifax, But I only have 1 default so I need to sort this out.

    thanks.

The damage has already been done.
The default will be on your credit file until 2014 - getting any credit until then will be subprime at best.
Paying the debt off will at least show it as settled - this is better than waiting for it to drop off but don't expect lenders to be too keen to lend for you for now.

Ok Thanks for that advise, I will just write to them and offer payment terms to clear the debt and then have it settled. No Mortgage for me this year then!!
