Except op cannot demonstrate she was in fact taken advantage off. And the massive time lapse between receiving the goods and making a complaint certainly acts in their favour.

Arcon...The fact of my mother being diagnosed with Dementia and the company refusing to take no for an answer when they asked if they could send a salesman round is taking advantage.

The reason for the time lapse is that my mother had forgotten she bought it and had not told me she had bought it at the time of agreeing to the purchase. She only remembered when she received the credit agreement letter and panicked because she didn't know what it was for. She had by then taken delivery of the item but had also forgotten that she had it as it was in a room she does not use much.

In my mind a company dealing with mainly elderly clients should be very aware that a good amount of them are possible Dementia sufferer's and make sure that the agreement is fully understood before carrying on with the sale. Sadly this is not the case in many cases and the families of these people are left dealing with the aftermath.

Help!! We've been waiting for a letter from the Credit company for over a week now and the payments are due to start in 2 days :(

We have put the payments on hold through mum's bank but I'm not sure if this was the correct thing to do???? I have informed the Credit Company that this has been done....can anyone tell me if this was the right thing to do or not please??

    Thanks in advance

Just a thought but do you have legal cover via your insurance policy or perhaps through your bank account?

It may affect your mums credit rating if she misses payments since effectively, all youre putting on hold is the method of payment, not the payment being due.

Have you tried calling the finance company? What letter are you expecting from them?

Hi Unholyangel, I'm not sure if mum has legal cover with her insurance policy or through her bank, I will look into that.

I spoke to the credit company this morning (they rang me) and apparently a payment has been paid even though mum told the bank to hold payment until further notice. I'm not sure what the letter was to contain, all I was told is that they would be sending one. It has been passed to the Complaints Dept and they were the one's to ring me this morning, she said that she would send the relevant paperwork directly to me to make a complaint and that if I have a letter from the Mental Health Unit that is dealing with mum to send them a copy of it as it would help her case, I'm sure we do have such a letter so will send that to them as soon as I can.

I also explained to the lady who rang me this morning that I'm due to go in hospital next Tuesday (4th June) for major spinal surgery so it will be a week or so before I will be able to deal with this matter again. She said that would be OK so I hope that it is because I cannot do anything any sooner.

I'm beginning to feel pretty desperate about this now....it's a lot to cope with what with my own medical problems and the forthcoming surgery :(

Stopping payments will destroy her credit status and potentially incur late payment charge, Be careful if going down this route, especially in this instance where the case is very weak.
